ext3 is dead to me. Long time readers will know I normally go with xfs (yes, I’m a xfs fanboy), but sometimes it’s easier to just go with the default. No modern filesystem should run out of inodes. This is simply inexcusable. :/

Lost Series Finale

I take back every bad thing I ever said about Lost. The finale totally met my expectations, and in future viewings, I’m sure it will exceed them. I actually watched the finale twice last night, and then proceeded to watch the first half of the pilot to recall the symmetry. I have high hopes that Lost will remain amongst my favorite tv series. I doubt that it could usurp “The West Wing” at #1, but I imagine in time it will settle in at #2. I’m not sure if it will have the rewatch-ability of West Wing, but I feel compelled to rewatch the entire Lost series. Some back of the envelope numbers: ~115 episodes at 45 minutes each, watching 12 hours a day yields a whole week to get the job done. Given the last couple of series I watched, getting through them can be quite a chore.

Lost Season 6

I suppose I can eek out an actual post. All of Friday night and Saturday have been a Lost marathon, catching up on season 6. I had enough will power to wait this long, but not quite enough to make it until tomorrow. I wish now that I didn’t have this ~24 hour lull to lose my momentum and linger to ponder the end.

I’ve watched plenty of series finales in my life. Many of whom from tv series I’ve loved. But none I can remember ever meeting my expectations. A cursory inspection of the internet’s best series finales is lacking as well (though it sounds like “Six Feet Under” might be something I should put on my list of things to watch… Lost has the potential to be a good one to wrap things up and bring closure and resolve. Only time will tell.

This is probably the reason why I’ll never use Mercurial as a version control system: its complete inability to revert to a known, sane state without deleting and starting all over. No thank you I’d prefer not to have to re-download 10’s of MB of data onto my NFS home dir when I have a perfectly good, already almost perfect copy on disk.

Gnome’s Empathy

Now I remember why I had a bad feeling about Gnome’s Empathy (http://live.gnome.org/Empathy). It’s because after having to install deps that aren’t bundled by default (what good is a program that doesn’t come with any backends by default?), and starting 5+ daemons that I didn’t have to have running before, it still doesn’t open a window.
