…has spent more time than I’d care to admit this weekend fighting with python’s compete and utter lack of timezone support. Please add this to the list of reasons why I hate python. And please don’t waste my time with “you should just use <insert third party library here>”. They all suck too.
If I have a timestamp with a f*ing -0400 or EDT in it, you should know perfectly how to convert it into epoch! There is no excuse for that shit. If I have to tell you that EDT == UTC-4, you fail. Doubly fail if you silently throw away timezone information, or well you can just read this and this. At least I’m not the only one…

WOW! Must have been a really long day. My experiences with python have been limited to a little hacking on a script here and there, mostly painless. I’ll stick with java though.
